Looking Back: 15 Years of Community, Service and Literacy

The Heart of America Foundation® is a national nonprofit, headquartered in Washington, D.C. We were founded in 1997 by husband-and-wife team Bill and Angie Halamandaris, a couple who has dedicated their lives to help improve the lives of children living in poverty. See Our Operational Principles | Honors & Recognition | Board of Directors | Executive Advisory Board

Since 1997, we have:

Touched the lives of over 1,235,000 people.

Helped corporate and community volunteers serve more than 1,037,500 hours in the community.

Revitalized 175 public elementary school libraries and reading spaces in high need areas across the U.S. through our READesign® Library Makeover program.

Provided children living in poverty with 2.9 million books — a value of nearly $18 million.

Help us provide children in need with the tools to read, succeed and make a difference!

Together, we will engage your team in a meaningful volunteer experience that will help our mission to:
